I create my work in response to recycled and secondhand materials— gleaned from thrift stores, gifted from friends, and collected off the streets around my neighborhood. When gathering items, I generally don’t have a preconceived idea of what forms they might take in a final sculpture. It is in considering the mundane lives of these materials that my thinking has evolved to include an awareness of the complex environmental, and thus political, implications of working with cast-offs. Working with my hands to recontextualize our culture’s discards, I hope to reanimate our intimate relationship with objects, aesthetics, natural and industrial processes, and consumption. My sculptures aim to be playful; a superabundance, exposing the too-much-ness of our desires.
